Nestled in the Canadian Rockies, we are situated in Canmore, which is considered Canada’s mountain playground. We offer a wide variety of adventure and leisure pursuits. The Wandering Elk is also open for lunch and dinner, and features a variety of local Canadian fare to suit every palate! Enjoy our patio with a fabulous view of the Three Sisters, Ha Ling Peak, and the Rundle Range.

Events and Festivals for March 2013

Mar 12th 2013

As spring arrives down the events just keep coming in the exciting town of Canmore. In addition to some great fundraisers this month, we highlight some of Canmore’s signature events!

March 10 – Grizzly Ultra Ski Marathon & Relay
Participants will test their endurance during this 50km cross-country skiing challenge. The race will encompass five different legs, which can be completed as a team or individually. Each leg is graded for level of difficulty and categories include: all male, all female and mixed. The relay event will take place at the world-class Canmore Nordic Centre; one of the top cross country ski destinations in the world and originally developed for the 1988 Winter Olympic Games. March 17 – Rocky Mountain Ski Challenge
Hosted by Canmore Nordic Ski Club, skiers are invited to take part in this cross-country ski race. Participants have the choice of entering a team for the Rocky Mountain Relay (3 x 10km) or the individual races, which include a 10km open category, a 30km open category, and a 10 km for ages 16-18 category. A separate Youth Challenge will also be held for those between 6 and 15 years of age. For more information on this cross-country ski challenge, visit

March 21-22 – Harry Manx at Communitea Cafe
Enjoy a night of music at Communitea Café, provided by  “Mysticssippi” blues man Harry Manx. Known for his unique sound that combines different genres, he is sure to create an unforgettable performance. Tickets are $55 in advance and $60 at the door. March 23 – Canmore Winter Meltdown Triathlon
The 2013 Alberta Winter Triathlon Provincials are coming to Canmore this March. The province’s best winter tri-athletes will compete at the Canmore Nordic Center in a 10km cross- country ski, 10 km mountain bike and a 5 km run. There will also be a novice distance race and a duathlon for these top competitors. Visit

March 30 – 31 – Canmore Ski Fest 2013
It’s cross-country ski season in Canmore and if you think you have what it takes to ski for 24 hours straight, you can put yourself to the test on March 30th, 2013. The 24hr solo race will be the Canadian National Championship. Teams of 2 will also be able to compete and there will be 4 different races: a 24hr, 12hr, 6hr and a kid race. Visi
