Julia Ransom & Erin Yungblut, local athletes & aspiring Olympians!
Julia Ransom - Biathlete
Kelowna born and raised, Julia made the move to Canmore in 2011 to train on the Canadian National Team alongside some of the best athletes in Canada. Hours of hard work, sweat and determination have been poured into the snow and rollerski track at the Canmore Nordic center, and on the trails all over the valley. Under the expertise of coaches Roddy Ward, Matthias Ahrens, and Kathy Davies, Julia trains six days per week, attends training camps all over Alberta, BC and the US, and races both nationally and internationally.
Highlights of this past season included multiple top 10 finishes on the IBU International Racing Circuit as well as being a member of the World Championships Team in Finland. Her next big goal is to be a serious contender at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, Korea. Throughout the fall and winter Julia is a volunteer coach for the Canmore Nordic Biathlon Bears program. She holds practices once per week to teach the basics of shooting, skiing and racing to boys and girls aged 12-14.

Erin Yungblut - Biathlete
Erin Yungblut is a 24-year old biathlete coming off a successful first year in the senior ranks competing for Canada at International events such as International Biathlon Union (IBU) Cups. She originally hails from Wroxeter, Ontario but currently resides in Canmore, Alberta. Erin’s goal is to compete for Canada at the 2018 Winter Olympics and win medals at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Along the way she hopes to inspire others to chase their dreams and live their passions, as well as follow a healthy active lifestyle.
Erin races for Canada internationally and represents the province of Ontario when racing domestically. She trains full-time at the National Development Center for Biathlon in Canmore, Alberta, with the team Rocky Mountain Racers. Erin’s journey in Nordic sports began eight years ago when she first learned to ski and I fell in love with the sport of biathlon five years ago when she began shooting in her final year of high school.
The challenge of the two unique sports—cross-country skiing and rifle marksmanship—appealed to Erin greatly and she has quickly risen as one of Canada's most promising young biathletes. Erin is drawn to the sport of Biathlon because of the many attributes one must possess to be successful – power, endurance, and finesse on the skis and focus and precision on the range.
